Minimum health and safety requirements for the manual handling of loads where there is a risk particularly of back injury to workers

1.Does the manual handling of a load by workers exceed the weight of 30Kg?
1.1 Is it unwieldy or difficult to grasp?
1.2 Is it unstable or does it have a content which is likely to shift?
1.3 Is it positioned in a manner requiring it to be held or manipulated at a distance from the trunk (=upper body), or with a bending or twisting of the trunk?
2. Did the employer take any specific measures in order to avoid the need for manual handling of the load?
3. Are workers informed of these measures, adopted with regard to the protection of safety and health?
4. Are workers informed on all aspects of safety and heath relating to their workstation?
5. Is the physical effort of manual handling of loads too strenuous?
5.1 Can it only be achieved by a twisting movement of the upper body?
5.2 Is it likely to result in a sudden movement of the load?
5.3 Is it performed with the body in an unstable posture?
6. Does the workstation prevent the handling of loads at a safe height or with good posture by the worker?
6.1 Is the floor uneven?
6.2 Is there not enough room to carry out the activity?
6.3 Are there any variations in the level of the floor or the working surface?
6.4 Is the floor or foot rest unstable?
6.5 Is the temperature, humidity or ventilation at the workstation unsuitable?
7. Does the worker's activity require over-frequent or over-prolonged physical effort involving the spine?
7.1 Is there a sufficient bodily rest or recovering period?
7.2 Are there excessive lifting, lowering or carrying distances?
7.3 Is the rate of work imposed by a process which can not be altered by the worker?
