GUIDELINES ON HOW TO USE ISO 103030 STANDARD IN THE FURNITURE SECTOR

The ISO 10303, – the STandard for the Exchange of Product model data – is a comprehensive series of documents which provides industry with a major capability to exchange and share the information used to define a product, throughout the supply chain to the end customer and throughout the entire life cycle of the product. It is already in use to share simple CAD information, product models, complete product structures and technical drawings, …

Two standards are under ISO 10303: one that is the AP236 (ISO 10303-236) for product data catalogue and another that is a de-facto standard for the furniture sector for commercial documents as orders, quotations, …, and that are related to the ISO standard.

This standard is composed of several application protocols (AP), including an AP for representation of furniture catalogues and placement of pieces of furniture into an interior decoration project, named AP236 (ISO 10303-236) or “Furniture catalogue and interior design”. This AP has 6 levels of implementation or Conformance Classes (CC) and are standards by themselves:


• ISO/TS 10303-1351 “Catalogue Data Information”
• ISO/TS 10303-1352 “Catalogue Data Information and Shape Representation” Geometry
• ISO/TS 10303-1353 “Parameterized Catalogue Data Information” Expression
• ISO/TS 10303-1354 “Furniture Interior Decoration”
• ISO/TS 10303-1355 & 1356 “Parameterized Catalogue Data Information and Shape Representation” - Implementation modules

These structures are mainly developed based on XML schemas.

The use-cases described here propose a set of best practices and guidelines tailored for different company configurations and they can be used by the industry in their way to adopt ISO-10303-236 standard in their business.
